Obituary as appears in The Bedford Journal 2005-07-28 Michael J. Carbonneau Active in Bedford community Michael J. Carbonneau, 42, of Bedford, N.H., died July 21, 2005, at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born Sept. 20, 1962, in Laconia, the son of Lionel and Jane (Phillips) Carbonneau. After moving to Durham as a young child, he graduated from Oyster River High School in 1980. He attended Tabor Academy for one year prior to attending the University of New Hampshire. He graduated from UNH in 1985 with a degree in chemistry before beginning his work career at Velcro, USA. He had worked at Velcro for almost 20 years. He was well known for his many patents, and for helping to design and create Velcro for disposable diapers, for which he received many service awards. Mr. Carbonneau was an active member of the Bedford community. He coached his children's sports teams including soccer, softball and baseball. He was a member and former president of the Bedford Men's Club, where he moderated the candidates’ forums each spring. He was a member of the Bedford Parks and Recreation board and president of the Bedford Girls Softball League, Recreational Division. He loved to ski, play golf, and watch his beloved Red Sox win “the Series.” He was passionate about football. Family members, in addition to his parents, of Durham, include his wife of 18 years, Marie (Donlan) Carbonneau, a son, Daniel Carbonneau, and two daughters, Micheala Carbonneau, and Colleen Carbonneau, all of Bedford; three sisters, Gail Linehan of Londonderry, Susan Carbonneau of Orlando, Fla., and Nancy Kennedy of Bedford. He has many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much. He is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins who will miss him dearly. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 25 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church. Memorial donations may be made to the “I Like Mike” Fund, TD Banknorth, 184 Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110, or Community hospice House, 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054. Phaneuf Funeral Home and Cremation handled the arrangements.
