Lionel Joseph Carbonneau of South Barre, passed away July 24 after a tragic moose accident, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Lionel was born in Graniteville on May 25, 1920, son of the late Edouard and Rose (Bourget) Carbonneau. Lionel attended the Holy Ghost Convent in Graniteville and later graduated from St. Michael's High School in Montpelier, class of 1939.
Lionel served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 during World War II in the European Theater. On Aug. 9, 1947, he married Marilyn Jean Webber at St. Sylvester's Church in Graniteville. From 1951 to 1961, Lionel and Joseph Perreault owned and operated the Pic-N-Pay Supermarket in South Burlington. In 1961, Lionel joined the Sperry and Hutchinson Company until his retirement in 1982. Lionel and Marilyn then returned to Vermont where they made their home in South Barre and opened "The Country Loft Antiques."
He was a member of St. Sylvester Church, the Barre American Legion Post #10 and the Mutuo Inc.
