Adeodat was one of the first volunteer to the Royal 22nd Regiment and he spent at least a couple of years in Europe. He served in most of the major battles of the regiment as a machine gunner and I remember him clearly talking about the battle of Courcelette. He was injured by Mustard Gas at one point and he suffer at times during his lifes from the hardship he endured in WWI (especially problems with his legs). He was decorated and finish the war as a caporal. He came back to Canada (Mtl) in 1919 to the greatest pleasure of his father, mother, and relatives since they had not hear from him in about 6 months. I remember grandma telling me many times about how, suddenly one day the door bell rang, she went to the door (she was 18 at the time), and her brother was standing there with a big smile. She almost fainted. Denis Van Wassenhoven
